People tend to dream. We never seem to be satisfied with what we have. We seem to want more. Sometimes the wanting is genuine, spurred by a pressing need. Sometimes it is wanted just for the sake of the wanting. Whatever the reason doesn’t matter, the universe is infinite and can produce boundlessly. Each person has to define within themselves how they are going to manage the karma that comes along with the receipt of the manifestation of what they are wanting. But first things first…how do you get what you want?

In 1996 when I had my kundalini awakening, I had no idea what manifestation was. I had no idea what to do with my new found awareness. I read all kinds of books, joined some groups, talked to people and learned all kinds of things.

One group I belonged to said that to become better than I was, all I had to do was ask the Universe for what I wanted. This, they told me was what an affirmation was. Repeat it over and over, write it out, stick it on an vertical surface that I would see, pray for it and to make sure I got it, visualize in my mind receiving it.

So I set to and made a list of what I wanted and what I wanted to accomplish. I set time aside every day to practice all the techniques they taught me. I wrote goals and affirmations and I read them three times a day. I did the post-it note thing, I meditated, I visualized, I did it all for almost two years and guess what? Yup, none of it worked.

I went through a tremendous period of turmoil and disappointment. The left brain side of me decided took charge and decided that if I wanted anything I had to do something to get it. So I got up out of my special chair and walked away from the manifestation/visualization thing.

I had spent two years writing goals, I never achieved, reading affirmations that never came true, visualizing receiving what I wanted, that I never got and I started to ask people in the group when the last time was that they got something on their list. Most told me that they were still working on their list and that it would come in God’s time, not theirs. Some had been doing their manifestation process for five years and some as long as 7. At that time I believed that faith was a key element in life and without it nothing would happen.

I had this very weird feeling that in the case of manifestation, all the things I was doing was wrong and somehow there had to be another way. I knew how to fail on my own, after all, I had some dooseys in my life. I didn’t need to re-enforce my failures with affirmations, I wanted to know how to succeed. If life could be just a little bit easier, I would be happy. At the point when I realized what I was doing wasn’t working, I was willing to settle for mediocrity.

Ironically, I realized why the self-help industry was such big business. A whole lot of people were buying a whole lot of rubbish that looked good and was touted to be the best, but didn’t work worth a hoot.

Being newly awakened, and really not knowing the rules, I believed what the New Age community told me – whatever you want you can have. I realized that there were a whole pile of leaders getting what they wanted by preying on the gullibility of their followers. They got all the money and could get what they wanted while the hapless follower was told they needed to try harder. To me, that just didn’t ring true.

When I look at people who are successful, I realize they all have one thing in common. They take action, but it is even more than that. There is something inside them that pulls them on to greater success. It is more than the knowledge of how to do something, which some successful people didn’t have when they started out. It is more like a divine force that sweeps you off your feet and carries you through to the end result you are seeking. It comes from deep inside of you.

Don’t get me wrong. It doesn’t have to be a big, soft, warm and fuzzy energy. It can be, but it can also be very strong , sharp and calculating. It morphs to fit the situation. In my clinical practice, my energy can be very large, very tough and very male. It deals with what has to be dealt with to get a client to the next step in their process. Other times, it can be very soft and seductive, or even very strong and sharp, especially in business. It reacts the same with my process and what I choose to bring into my life. It challenges me to be more than I am and it kicks my butt when I’m not. I call it Inner Strength.
When I decide I want something, my Inner Strength, kicks into gear and gets everything organized. It sets me on a path with a determined force that is unstoppable. Yes, I can putz around and waste time, but ultimately, it will kick into gear and drag me if it has to. But when my Inner Strength and I are congruent, look out.

Have you ever bent a spoon using your mind and without using your full strength to bend it? It is the most amazing experience because your conscious mind tells you it’s impossible.
Think about it! When you were brought up, you were taught very rigid thought processes and beliefs. Those thought processes and beliefs govern what you will allow yourself to accomplish, and believe you can accomplish.

Your whole world changes when you suddenly discover you can do something that you originally believed was impossible. You see, the world is not fixed. It is very malleable, just like you discover in the spoon.

I love to watch people’s faces in my spoon bending classes when the spoon first begins to bend. It is the look of wonder of a small child, a delight in discovering what I am telling them is really true.
When the spoon bends, it is like a whole wall of resistance falls with a resounding crash. No longer are you bound by the old rules. Now a whole new vista of opportunity opens and your world shifts to a new place. Disbelief turns to tentative belief, as if asking permission to change the rules. What you don’t realize just yet is that by your concentration and focus, you changed the rules all by yourself and the spoon bent.

All it takes to change your world is concentration and focus. Depending on how badly you want something, will dictate how long and how strongly you focus. After all, a spoon is a small thing, although it is rigid. It is an analogy for your beliefs and the strength in which they were crammed into you.

Imagine what it would be like if everything you decided to do, that was appropriate for you to do, was successful. Do you realize how much more fun life would be if you learned to sing, or skydive or whatever it is that you believe you can’t. You could turn a smothered passion into a fun reality. Life would have so much more meaning for you. You would no longer be living your limitations. You would be bending your world to where your curiosity and adventure takes you. Now, that’s living!

Most people lead very busy lives. Their heads are constantly full of thoughts, worries and stress. In addition, most people don’t know how to relax and de-stress. When it’s time to go to bed, do you look forward to a restful, peaceful night, only to toss and turn yourself to sleep, only to wake up feeling like you’ve wrestled an elephant? Are you ready to break the cycle?
You see, all of the thoughts bouncing around inside your head like a pinball machine are foreign energy. That is, energy that doesn’t belong to you. Most of it comes from karmic sediment in your energy fields with a little bit of active memory. When you don’t have the skill set to discern where this foreign energy is in your fields and remove it, then you need to apply a different method. I wonder how many of you can honestly say that you live your life with a complete absence of doubt. Can you actually imagine what it would be like? There would be no little voice inside your head screaming at you in its shrill little voice, “You’ll be sorry!” Your self-sabotage voice would get permanent laryngitis and be unable to natter at you about anything.
On every level of your being you would know that the pull you feel inside you, which may be neither gentle nor subtle, is in the driver’s seat and you have no choice but to go along for the ride. As one of my clients so clearly put it “God would never put me in harm’s way.” He is so clear about that and so focused on his belief that there is no fear left in him anymore. He just knows. When the doubt went, the fear went with it.
Some of my clients that have been with me for a number of years have made huge inroads in their lives. I won’t say that they have total absence of doubt, but some of them are pretty darn close. It’s an amazing feat, knowing that you’re doing what you’re supposed to be doing and nothing can stop you from succeeding in it.
How did they get like that, you ask? Guts, perseverance, determination and partnership for I have walked beside them every step of the way. I probably know them better than they know themselves.
Its very rewarding to allow my inner guidance that lovingly, clearly and confidently led the orchestration of their lives. The flow and the ease in which it happened is awe-striking. Sometimes a client is pulled from the jaws of some deep, dark abyss that threatens to suck them into the forever of darkness. Its all about gently bringing them back to a place of warmth, security and safety with gentle loving arms, cradling them until they could stand once again with renewed strength.
I truly recognize the miracle that my life is, even with all the appearances that try to knock me off my path and into some innocuous activity with little purpose and plenty of distraction. But, I know deep down that I am being guided by a firm and strong hand so pure and so sure that all of the egoic attempts to steer me away are in vain. My focus is strong, My doubt has virtually disappeared. The clamour of voices is gone so there is virtually only one voice to listen to. If I listen to it, it will lead me with a sure hand.
I wasn’t always like this, so don’t think I was lucky being born aware. My awakening journey is only 13 years old in 2009. It has taken me a lot of work, struggle and determination to get to this place. While the clamour of voices was going on I had to make choices as to which voices I listened to. I had to gain insight as to which voices were in which game and who was trying to trick who. Above all, I had to develop discernment as to which voices were the cheerleaders and which ones were the opposition.
My self-sabotaging voice has disappeared totally. I remember when it was so logical and rational and seemed to be so right. A lot of times, it had me totally convinced and I followed its advice, after all, it sounded so practical that I actually tried to disconnect the other voice, the one that truly had my best interests at heart. After a while, I actually stayed on the line, more and more, listening and taking a giant leap of faith over the chasm of doubt, fear and uncertainty, only to find that I was perfectly safe and sound. Steadfastly, I’ve hung on the line, waiting and listening for the next hint, the next step until the moment of now, where I know than nothing is impossible. With diligence and work you will discover that you really can fly and after a while, you don’t even need a net to catch you, because you won’t fall ever again.

With some of us, the Universe is not very subtle. It bops us on the head and suddenly we’re different. I’ve always been curious to see how other people have experienced “the Universal Call.” It seems like some people have had a road map pushed in one ear and they just seem to have a complete set of directions on exactly where they are to go and how they are to get there.

My awakening was similar to that but I must say, I didn’t always know where to go or how to get there. Sometimes when I knew, I didn’t know what I was supposed to do when I did get there.

For those who have never had an awakening experience, what would it be like if they had one? It is a very definitive experience. One that is unmistakable. Some people seem to wait their whole life in expectant anticipation for their Universal Call. I, on the other hand was not in the least expecting anything like it when it came.

When the Universe smacks you upside the head it seems to light a fuse of explosive action that sets in motion a whole series of events that take you beyond anything logical or rational. Your logical mind cannot rationalize its way out of this one! You are swept beyond your comfort zone and all the excuses your mind could come up with are unceremoniously brushed aside. You’re in for a ride now, bumps and all. Even the old creaky-springed jalopy is called into service to carry you through this quickening.

At first you’re still in doubt and trepidation about the unknown that is looming in front of you but over time you cannot deny the huge but gentle loving presence that is propelling you into a deeper state of oneness. The voice is so soft and clear, yet so strong.

You never know when an awakening will happen. Some people seem to be born awake so the awakened state is all they know. When you are abruptly dragged from your life into another way of being it can be quite a shock. On one hand, you don’t quite know what to make of it all and on the other, every cell of your body, at every level of consciousness knows that another piece of your life has just slipped into place. At first it seems quite effortless, after all, it just happened. Then a vision of the new reality opens before you. As you try to adjust to this new way of being, the ego tries to slip you back into old ways and old habits. You suddenly realize that they are now very uncomfortable and very cumbersome. Some great divine choreographer pushes you into a new dance of trying to empty your cup of the old drudgery and stickiness that was the way a while ago. We are forced to surrender, to have faith and trust in the process. Some of the bumps we experience are large indeed as family and friends try to cajole us into the old ways.

The new way is much more inviting as the clear gentle voice beckons us ever closer. Then the karma hits and bounces us around on large waves of discord as we try to navigate and find our way through. This is punctuated by that crystal clear voice whispering…”This way.” There is nothing left but surrender to the truth of who we are and the purpose we have chosen.
